Italy passes harsher rape penalties

The Italian Senate passed into law tougher penalties against sexual offenders on 29 April, 2009, as reported on UPI.com. These include:

  • life sentences for offenders who murder their victims after a rape
  • increased sentences for those who rape a minor and for those who are involved in gang rapes
  • stalking introduced as a crime
